Deepavali - Festival of Lights

Deepavali is the most important festival celebrated in India, also very important to all Indians all over the world. It's celebrated on the darkest night of the year, which usually fells sometimes in the beginning of November. Deepavali is the festival of lights . Homes are decorated with lights and lamps. Lamps are called diyas. Also on the floor family members make a picture with a colorful rice.

The name Deepavali means "row of lamps". Diyas are lit in every house to banish the dark and welcome good luck and good fortune.
People wear new clothes, meet their friends and relatives, eat good food, decorate their houses with flowers and lights and set off fireworks. In the evening  people hold a small prayer in their homes.
Deepavali us festival of joy, prosperity and good luck, and celebration of the victory of good over evil.
